Great earthmoving pics from Broken Cross

Thanks to ConstructionSpace member DDDDDD, aka David Wylie, for uploading this fantastic gallery of earthmoving equipment in action at Broken Cross open coal site in Scotland. It's one of the biggest muckshifts underway in the UK at 244 million cubic metres.

Among the kit in action is a Cat 834H wheeled dozer, relatively new to the UK.

Yes great pics of some big plant.

     Though i have to say

Among the kit in action is a Cat 834H wheeled dozer, relatively new to the UK.

I reckon the tyre repair firm is kept busy with this machine - the size and sharpness of the rock showing in the pic and the cuts and slashes on the tyres ... many punctures me thinks.

Thanks for your feedback on the photos. I was in contact with the operator today and asked about tyre wear /damage, they have not encountering any problems with tyres so far on Cat 834.

    Regards

    David

Couple of years ago me and two lads from Cumbria and a bod from Portsmouth or somewhere like that did the nightshift in Whatley Quarry for Hanson!

On the day shift they had 6 Komatsu HD785, a PC 1250, A WA800 and a WA470 to clean the roads!

They peaked just over 8000 ton per day!

Me driving the 1250 and the 3 boys driving the 785s were hitting 11 and 12,000 ton!

The day shift were squealing about us so much i bought them some baby dummies from boots and caught them all finishing work!

I gave them the dummies and said you puffs have spat yours out so many times they must be worn out here have some new ones!

A week before we had never done that job!

A week later we had pissed the boys who had done it for 28 years!

    Thats muck shifting!

Thats where i get my buzz!

Thats surprised me - he must be taking a lot of care with that machine and the tyres around that rock.

With the wrong op on a machine like that could cost a fortune in puctures and tyres.

You have got a good un there David.
