Does anyone think there's an instability problem with mini-excavators?

Apparently OPERC are going to investigate after being contacted by Morgan Est.

"A comment from the floor suggested that a main contractor actually taught its operators how to right a mini excavator when it fell over because they expected it to happen."

I hired a mini excavator to scratch out some additional drainage trenches at my home - now I'm no machine driver but, I didn't have any problems whatsoever.

Perhaps the above statement is advising not to overstretch the mini-machine's ability... or perhaps it's just covering it's operators lack of ability?

I would therefore suggest barry08, that it's perhaps a combination of both?

I don't have wide experience of mini-excavators, but I think you'd have to be pretty reckless with a mini-excavator to get it topple. I can't recall ever seeing one that's toppled over.

I suppose certain ground conditions might be a factor but you would assume an operator would take them into account.

 I have driven mini diggers all over the place including on top of buildings during demolition!

For one company i was nicknamed The Mountain Goat when driving them so from a vast experience i can say that appart from the really small machines like the 3 quarter ton Tackeuchi with the retractable tracks you would need to be a complete moron to topple a mini digger!

opps i thought that the 3/4 tonne diggers and skip loading dumpers where training vessels for me to play on on show the lads what you should not do with the ones that are not tonka toys for grown ups,,, now a saturday morning doing wheely races with a skip loading dumper with no bucket attached is a saturday of fun

opps forgot to add the senciable bit ,,, its not the machine thats unstable ,,,,, if its on flat ground and used within its limits its very stable .

so that then leaves the groung its on.,,,,,, and more importantly the driver,,,, now where does the sentance containing instability fit.....
