just got my a12 red trained operators card

    Hi guys

I'm  new on here and to construction plant I have been a ground worker for over 5 years and got made redundant a while back .

I got funding to do a 10 day course for the 180 excavator (which I believe isn't enough time to learn a new trade)

It sounds like I got good seat time in the machine compared to what other training providers give as I had the chance to study at home for the theory and work through my brakes and now  feel confident on the machine .

My problem now is finding work and working towards my blue competent operators card. Can you guys give me any advice in sourcing work as I have been looking for jobs but they all want experienced operators

ps I'm in the process of writing to employers and I'm in the north east of England

    thanks in advance

    andy

The old catch-22 of having the training but not being able to get a job because employers demand experience.

Just keep knocking on as many doors as you can, and don't get disillusioned.

Anyone from the North East on here know of any openings?

Good luck with the hunt Andy.

I'm gonna go with a hunch here and say if you have done 5 years of groundworks your not really as green as you might appear!

I'll let you into a secret!

When i left the demolition i could drive a machine better than SATAN but the amount of gobbledegook the construction side came out with made me look like a fecking idiot for 3 months!

    Still...

Whenever i needed work i just pulled out the yellow pages and rang everyone that used the toy i could drive!

You might go a couple of weeks without answer but all of a sudden 6 firms would ring at the same time!

Now is a bad time of the year to be looking for work but i know its not impossible cause ive done it before!

Get something to keep you ticking over and keep plugging for the big one!

    It will come!

hi thanks for the replays guys.

I started work today with an agency for a general building company  so it will keep me ticking over as i look for work on the machine.

Things seem to be picking up a little now so fingers crossed that ill be in the job that i want soon
