Well in the current climate work is becoming harder to find!

So I thought we could all help each other out here on Construction Space.

If anyone hears of any plant operator jobs going then please post details in this thread, that way hopefully we can all keep working during this difficult time.

    Iceman,

Great idea and normally Hewlett would be interested. However I'm looking for plant ops who want to move into training, testing & assessing. Not for everyone I know, but there may be some who are interested.

    Regards

    Steve Vickers

    Steve,

Strangely enough I am on the verge of making the move into the training, testing & assessing world which I am somewhat nervous about!!

But I am hoping it will be a good move for me as the years role by.Big Smile

I am looking forward to trying to train up the next generation of machine operators Yes

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback! What I should of mentioned is that I am already in the frame for a trainers position at the agricultural college where my other half works here in the West country.

They are currently setting up a facility but these kind of places take time to get the wheels in motionConfused

I hope to be in this position sometime after Easter Yes

Well there isn't much choice of ag college in devon/cornwall so got a fairly good idea where must be!! Spent 4 years there on and off and they have provided me with a mountain of training and a wealth of knowledge with many helpful contacts that never mind a phone call, fingers crossed you get it, imagine it would be a well rewarding job, providing we're both on about the same place they've got a real good attitude to practical hands on training.

    Re: Plant operator jobs

Message me through ConstructionSpace for my contact details.

Im a Plant trainer trying to get out of training. I have lost all interest due to the amount of cowboys kicking the backdoor in on the job.

I am interested to see that charlie is operating excavators right through to cherry pickers, erm!  so just what is your background excavator driver in civils or cherry picker operator Cladding fixer.

This is why have had enough of training too many people think they can drive everything, I would rather a man tell me he had two categories and be the best on them both than 27 and average to poor on them all.

Sorry for the rant but some of the posts on section just some up the problem with training.

    Re: Plant operator jobs

dont have a go at me because you dont like your job and and what it stands for, i have 27 tickets yes, the reason that i have 27 tickets is that the cpcs has split tracked and wheeled tickets, i have 2 tickets for 360 tracked and wheeled 2 for dumper 2 for road rail tracked and wheeled 180, and cherry picker that i use on the rail working with ole, and the rest of the tickets are attachments for road rail in reality i drive 180 360 dumper cherry picker so i drive 4 different actual plant on a regular basis, the cpcs feel the need to separate and categorize these tickets which in turn makes more money for them i do not need 27 categories to drive 4 machines but they re wright the rules to suit themselves, in the last 5 years i have spent £10.000 on plant tickets and have all-ways gone down the approved training school route otherwise i could have had the lot for less than £1000 by getting pub car-park tickets i am a professional driver and i am committed to my own professional development and am totally self funded, training and assessment charges are far to high who is going to pay £2500 for training and £1000 for a nvq in the current climate plant operators are earning as little as £6 ph in some parts of the uk its not viabal to shell out £3500 for a £6 ph job so people are going to get pub car-park tickets how do you think i feel having spent 10k then some scrote gets on site with a £100 car park ticket these untrained drivers flooding the marked are driving down the hourly rate for us properly trained drivers and they are producing a poor quality of work, re rant over thank you for your, erm, interest.

As you rightfully say charlie, no i'm not interested mate i'ts up to you. If i had been you and i had that amount of money to spend on training i would have got a useful qualification like my NEBOSH and gone down a different line totaly.

    Best of luck mate.
