Sorry not to have replied sooner but I have only just spotted this. By now you may have found out that, no a director cannot sub for his own company. A director is an officer of the comapny and under tax regs must have all earnings treated under PAYE.

I agree with you, there is little job security, but if a contract comes to an end or a full stop for some reason, other jobs don't just magically materialise.
