Senior Application Engineer - Belfast

Our client is a leader in the power sector and they manufacture monitoring and protection devices used by electric utilities and OEM manufacturing companies to monitor substation and transformers. They are a global leader in sales and installations of transformer asset protection equipment, fault recorders, and fault locators.

They are looking to recruit a Senior Application Engineer for their Belfast office on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection and use of our client's products to satisfy customer application requirements.

The primary responsibilities of this position will centre around developing a thorough understanding of the business drivers across all segments of the electrical utility industry and relevant adjacencies as well as technical support for customers and manufacturing, sales and product management support functions as appropriate and preparation of technical support documents.

Duties

. Provide customer technical assistance for product questions and problems from the point of quotation request through post shipment and installation.
. Be the expert on the electrical utility market, understanding and keeping abreast of the advancements, development and opportunities in this market such as adoption of IEC61850 protocol for substation integration, trends and drivers in utility maintenance practices and utility outsourcing.
. Provide assistance to the commercial team in terms of technical responses and guidance on quotations.
. Research and determine product solutions. Initiate New Product models, derivatives, specials, as necessary to meet agreed upon customer needs.
. Be extremely proactive and customer responsive. Customer feedback should be positive regarding response quality and timeliness.
. Document all product selection and product specification choices.
. Support manufacturing by answering questions as required and trouble-shooting order related problems.
. Analyze product failures and customer concerns. Assist in customer quality concerns. Generate reports and CQC's as required.
. Management of small and medium customer maintenance contracts and report on a monthly basis technical support activity related to Key Maintenance Contracts
. Provide Internal Training on Products
. Travel in support of sales organization may be required periodically

Skills and Experience

. BS Degree Electrical/ Electronic Engineering.
. Proven experience in similar role
. Experience gained in Electric Utility Environment
. Experience / expertise in Digital protection relay applications
. Strong experience supported number of product lines across multiple roles.
. Knowledge in Windows Office tools and Windows Operating Systems such as Windows XP, 2003 Server
. Knowledge in MS-SQL database (preferred)
. Knowledge in telecom techniques for remote device monitoring: TCP/IP, modem protocols, serial links etc. (preferred)
. Excellent verbal and writing skills
. Strong customer service orientation
. Strong analytical and problem solving skills
. Languages - English
