A leading leading provider of enterprise class data storage subsystems and network technology is currently recruiting for a Senior Bid Manager. Based in Hampshire. salary £50-65K + benefits.
The Bid Management team exists to support and assist the Sales organisation on the creation of formal responses back to customers on RFI's/RFQ's and pricing activities. The team are part of the Quality and Engineering Services group and need to work closely within the wider Network Storage Solutions organisation, coordinating and facilitating all functions that are needed to support the bid activity, managing the end to end process of creating and submitting the proposal to internal and/or external customers in order to provide cost effective, innovative solutions that meet the customers needs.
The workload can often be sporadic with the need to meet and exceed deadlines, requiring the individual to be flexible and focussed and have the ability to conscientiously deliver under pressure and, on occasion, work outside of the norm.
Responsibilities
- Develop unique propositions, project managing the bid process.
- Review the technical proposals with the engineering, commercial and finance teams to understand the solution content, feasibility and requirements.
- Effectively manage and coordinate activities between departments to establish product prices, manufacturing strategy, schedule and risks as part of the overall proposal.
- Assist with the writing and production of document material, rehearsing presentation teams, conducting, where possible, de-brief sessions on both successful and unsuccessful bids and recording feedback.
- Plan and conduct internal and, if required, external progress reviews and at all time document and articulate regular and accurate management information on bids. Lead the vetting process in advance of submission to the customer.
- Analyse and evaluate results of the above and provides feedback to senior manager team.
- Ensure that any costs associated with bids are cost-effective
- Build a rapport with the individual contributors and develop a clear and detailed understanding of the bid in line the customer's expectation.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, with the ability to adapt style of communication to different audiences.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the company's products, services and capabilities and takes an active role in identifying selling opportunities and key differentiators to the competition.
- Organise the bid team into appropriate roles and responsibilities and work within them to develop and execute bid strategy.
- Ensure that teams are kept informed of progress and timetables are met.
- Develop compelling propositions, proposes solutions to issues, making recommendations to bid teams as appropriate
Experience and skills required
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering or Commercial discipline.
- Proven bid management experience desirable, in a manufacturing field.
- A natural leader with a detail orientation.
- Experience of working within a team environment, a team builder capable of motivating and inspiring others to meet the Project needs.
- A self-starter with a positive attitude who is also strong minded with motivational drive to overcome problems quickly and effectively. The ability to get below the surface to understand what is blocking progress is a key attribute.
- Ability to act in difficult/ambiguous business and personnel environments and situations.
- Knowledge of a product life-cycle and production processes involved in the manufacture of electro-mechanical component and assemblies desirable.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and demands.
- Commercially astute and technically competent, with the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and Senior Management in a confident and professional manner to sell difficult messages and to package technical information for consumption by non-technical management.
- Thorough understanding and demonstrable application of lead generation, sales activity and bid management.
- Experience / working knowledge of MS Office and SharePoint.
The Bid Manager will be based at the company site near Havant, Hampshire, and it is essential that applicants live within commuting distance, or would be happy to relocate to the area.
The Salary offered will be £50-65K (depending on experience) + benefits.
